Yes. All Mette™ pieces are made of solid .925 sterling silver (92.5% pure silver). Our silver is also hypoallergenic and certified nickel-free.

All real sterling silver tarnishes over time. This is primarily a result of a chemical reaction between sulfur in the air and the metal silver gets alloyed with to make it strong enough for jewelry. This is also the reason 14k gold tarnishes over time. Other factors like skin chemistry, lotions, perfumes, etc. can also contribute to tarnishing.

Good news is it's really easy to remove tarnish from our sterling silver without damaging it! Unlike rust, tarnish is a surface reaction so tarnish can be completely removed with easy 2-min care. Please see the 'How to clean' bubble for more on cleaning.

Using Hagerty Silver Foam (or similar, the key is ammonia in the cleaner) and a soft-bristled brush, gently scrub your Mette like you are brushing your teeth and rinse under warm water. Warning: watching the tarnish magically melt away will be really addicting.

A final pass with gentle regular soap as a bonus to remove buildup from daily wear and your Mette™ will feel brand new every time.

We don't recommend polishing cloths or dip cleaners as we found they either require too much elbow grease or are ineffective.

Technically yes. (Our founder never takes hers off except to clean it.) But this will contribute to a faster tarnishing/cleaning cycle.

When not wearing your Mette™, we recommend you keep it in an airtight container or bag with the non-scratch anti-tarnishing strip it comes with. That black paper-like square contains activated charcoal to help absorb impurities in the air.

Besides that, go wild! We don't tell you not to wear lotions, makeup, sunscreen, sweat or breathe, because we find that's unrealistic. If it gets a little tarnished, you can just remove it in 2 minutes. Worth it to be able to wear your Mette™ to the gym or not forgoing your skincare routine in our opinion.
